Hello, I am Holly Shanahan. I have been a Chartered Physiotherapist since qualifying in 2000 from Liverpool University. I am a Pilates Instructor and the founder of Holly Shanahan Physiotherapy.
I moved to Manchester to begin my work in the NHS. First in Salford gaining experience in both Community and Hospital clinical settings but based mainly within Community teams and then leading the Supported Discharge Team, a Multidisciplinary service, within the Intermediate care service. In Stockport I continued as part of a Multidisciplinary team providing Physiotherapy within both the Community Rehabilitation and Intermediate Care Service.
Providing Community Based Rehabilitation has always been what makes me most happy at work, being able to help people in their home environment and tailor their rehabilitation to suit their individual circumstances. Much of my experience is working with older people and enabling them to maintain a good quality of life and independence. Working in the independent sector allows me to offer people rehabilitation for a length of time that suits the goals and progress of the individual; often allowing for people to reach a greater potential and reducing the need for future therapy intervention.
Rehabilitation especially for the older person and those managing longer term conditions can be best suited to the home environment, allowing the exercises they are completing to be adapted to their individual situation and need away from a clinical setting. Also cutting out the need for tiring travel to and from the appointment allowing their energy to be focused on the therapy time instead.
I offer visits to people’s homes including residential care settings, sheltered housing and retirement villages within South Manchester and Stockport for both Physiotherapy assessments or 1 to 1 Pilates assessments.
My Physiotherapy Led Pilates business was born out of my desire to spread my wings into fitness and exercise in a way that would be suitable for all of my clients. APPI Pilates has offered me the opportunity to provide tailored modified Pilates exercise for the individual within a Pilates 1 to 1 or Physiotherapy rehabilitation session and has enabled me to offer group exercise to a spread of adults regardless of their age and exercise ability.
My Physio-Led Pilates Classes are based at Withington Leisure Centre an Edwardian Bathing house that is being lovingly refurbished. The Studio was originally the Female bathing room re-designed with heated flooring, air conditioning, and mirrors to create a large open space.
I now also offer 'Pilates for Menopause' courses and workshops from the newly renovated Pilates/Yoga Studio within the Fit AS Gym in Bramhall, Stockport.
